The Go-To Person
Are you supposed to tell someone you can’t stand listening to the problems you’ve been listening to for days, months, or even years, or do you continue listening to it because you are their friend? I know I continue listening to people’s problems, but when I don’t ask how they are doing or what’s going on between them and their other person, I am in the wrong. But am I really in the wrong? Does that make me an awful friend? I listen to their problems everyday though I might talk to them about what is going on in my life. Even so, I always try to focus on the entire conversation, but the minute I don’t ask how they are doing I get told I have an attitude or am a b****. I didn’t know that it always has to be about one person. Did you?
Also this brings me to the fact that sometimes I don’t care to hear about the relationship because, frankly, it’s the same thing that’s been going on, and you’ve been telling everyone it’s time for the relationship to be over and done. Moreover, I have been telling these friends they deserve better and all that stuff you are supposed to say to a friend, but in the end I am still the bad person. Does that make sense?
I love my friends and I know being there for a friend is what you are supposed to do. I also know it’s supposed to be a two way street not one way. I also know that you are supposed to be honest with your friends and never lie to them. So why am I the bad person when I sign online and don’t IM people, or why am I the bad person for not texting someone back when in fact they do the same thing to me all the time?
I don’t get it nor will I ever get it. Maybe I am in the wrong. Not really sure. Let me know if I am!
Have you ever been in this kind of situation? Tell me about it!
